Types of Evidence-Based Treatment for Trauma 0-5y —Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a treatment for conduct-disordered young children that places emphasis on improving the quality of the parent-child relationship and patterns. Parents are taught PRIDE – Praise (specific), Reflect (the child), Imitate (match affect), Describe (child’s actions) with Enthusiasm and Engagement. The approach asks the parents to engage with the child in a play situation while receiving direction from a therapist via an earpiece/2 way mirror.

—Child-Parent Psychotherapy is a treatment for children who have experienced at least one traumatic event (e.g. maltreatment, traumatic death of attachment figure, sexual abuse, exposure to domestic violence) and/or are experiencing mental health, attachment, and/or behavioral problems, including posttraumatic stress disorder.
